Seventeen years ago, Marcus Johnson had a vision: build a roofing company where the owner shows up to every job, the materials are American-made, and a handshake still means something.
In 2008, Marcus Johnson scraped together his savings, loaded his tools into a used Ford F-250, and started knocking on doors in Buckhead. He did not have a marketing budget. He did not have a sales team. What he had was seventeen years of roofing experience, a work ethic forged by his father — a Korean War veteran who taught him that the measure of a man is the quality of work he leaves behind — and a stubborn refusal to cut corners.
That first year, Marcus personally completed 47 roofing jobs. He answered every call himself. He climbed every ladder himself. He swept every driveway when the job was done. Word got around. Neighbors told neighbors. Buckhead told Midtown. Midtown told Decatur. By 2012, Charlotte Roof Master had a crew of eight — every single one a W-2 employee, background-checked, and trained in-house. No subcontractors. No day laborers. No shortcuts.
Today, the company has completed over 2,500 roofing projects across the greater Charlotte area. Marcus still inspects every job site. He still shakes every customer's hand before and after. And he still drives that same Ford F-250 — because it still runs, and because replacing something that works just to look fancy is not how he was raised.
Most roofing companies will tell you they are different. Here is how we prove it:
Charlotte Roof Master holds GAF Master Elite certification, CertainTeed ShingleMaster status, and Owens Corning Preferred Licensed Contractor. We are fully licensed under North Carolina Licensed Contractor #GCCO007234, carry $2 million in general liability insurance, and maintain full workers' compensation coverage for every employee. We are BBB Accredited with an A+ rating and hold a 4.9-star average across 300+ Google reviews.
We have donated roofing labor and materials to Habitat for Humanity Greater Charlotte on twelve projects since 2015. Each Thanksgiving, our crew volunteers at the Charlotte Mission. We sponsor youth baseball in Buckhead and Decatur. This is our home. These are our people. When your neighbor's roof leaks, it matters to us — because that neighbor might coach our kid's Little League team.
